I'm off on my quest to copy some movies for a friend when I realize that I have no software to do so. I've happily been using the built-in XP CD burning thus far. I check out
Roxio's website and find that Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum does
work for XP. So far so good.
I'm following the instructions, rebooting a million times then I get to the part where it says upgrade the version. I run the updater, it complains that my Windows temp dir is full ... hrmmm. I give up on trying to upgrade the version and try to copy a CD. The copy goes
rediciously slow. Come to find out that my Kenwood 52X is in PIO mode instead of DMA.
I can't fix that problem so I decide the Roxio software is worthless and uninstall it. In doing so Windows decides that my Plextor CD-RW is now just a regular drive. Nothing fixes this ... then inspiration hits.
System Restore! I had my doubts on this actually working but nothing else was, so I give it a shot. Low and behold it actually worked! Plextor is working again and Easy CD Creator is gone. System Restore roxor my boxor that's for sure ;D
